May TBR & Challenge Books

Another month is ahead and so it’s time to look at what books I want to visit in May! For the most part, I met my April goal, but it was a close one, so I definitely don’t want to pressure myself too much. I feel I’m on track to complete my reading challenges, so I’m going to use May as a mostly double-up month and read a couple of my shorter books so that I have time to get everything read by the end.

First up:

Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge Books:

Angelfall – Susan Ee: This is a double-up book, for Book Riot and Reading Women. I’m really looking forward to it, because it’s a dystopian/fantasy and it sound really interesting. And, it’s a series that’s finished, so no worries about waiting for sequels – I can read them right away if I want to!

Butterfly Swords – Jeannie Lin: Another double-up book! This is counting for historical fiction/romance and I’m really curious to see how I’ll like it. Most of the romances I’ve read have been contemporary. But, I do love Asian history, so I’m hoping to really dig this book and fly right through it. It’s also part of a series, so who knows. If I like it, I have more to enjoy!

Tsubasa – CLAMP: I have been meaning to read this manga for soooo long and now, I’m finally giving myself time to do it. I’m looking forward to it, because the characters are pre-established from another manga (Cardcaptor Sakura – if any of you have heard of it, give me a shout out! Loved the manga, watched the anime, it is soooo great!), so I’ll be interested to see how they work out in this different world.

Reading Women Challenge Books:

Angelfall – Susan Ee: As above, super excited for apocalyptic angels and the destruction of Earth!

Butterfly Swords – Jeannie Lin: It’s set in the Tang dynasty and it features a badass lady fighter. My body is ready!

ARC of the Month:

Pumpkinheads – Rainbow Rowell (author) & Faith Erin Hicks (Illustrator): When I saw that Rainbow Rowell had a book out in NetGalley, I snatched it up right quick. I love Rowell’s writing and her stories. I’m curious to see how they’ll do translated into a graphic novel form. This story looks super cute and I’m really excited to see what’s in store.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – J.K. Rowling: This is for a re-read (my #avengersreadathon and for another HP related reading challenge I’m doing), and I’ve decided to re-read the illustrated edition, because, I mean, look how awesome it looks! I can’t wait to see the beautiful illustrations alongside one of my favorite texts.

Diary of a Murder and Other Stories – Young-Ha Kim: I came across this book in a book review magazine and I’m really hoping it’s as amazing as it sounded to make me put it on my TBR. I’m anticipating being creeped out but also thoroughly immersed.

The Liar’s Girl – Catherine Ryan Howard: This is Mays selection for my gal pal book club and when my friend read us the description, we were all so excited! It sounds like the perfect murder mystery/thriller and it involves serial killers! (I’m a Criminal Minds fan, so yeah, I can dig it!). I’m ready to be spooked and surprised!
