Top 5 Summer Time Reads | Top 5 Tuesdays

Top 5 Tuesdays and their topics are brought to you by Shanah @ the Bionic Bookworm. Check out her blog, she’s awesome, and this page for the list of topics for May!

Summer is basically here, so now’s the perfect time to bring out the summer reads! Summer is my favorite season, so I’m particularly excited to take a look at some of the books I think are perfect for the summer. Some are new to me and some are old favorites. I hope you find a few on this list that will bring you enjoyment during the summer months!

Here it goes:

1. The Unhoneymooners

To start things off, I’ve selected this book. It just screams summer, from it’s bright, floral cover, to its Hawaii destination setting, to the fun/steamy romance. This book is the perfect beach read, especially if you’re fans of the hate-to-love romance trope!

2. A Caribbean Mystery

What’s a summer without a murder mystery? I don’t know, but for some reason, I love to read mysteries in the summer. This one features one of my favorite amateur sleuths, Miss Marple. I love Agatha Christie and this one I think is perfect for summer, with it’s tropical location.

3. The Bride Test

I’ve said it before in my review of this book, but it’s got such a summer vibe to it! The breezy romance, the California setting, and the cute characters! I loved this book just as much as Hoang’s first novel, The Kiss Quotient. I highly recommend it!

4. The Last Time I Lied

Another mystery, and perfect for summer. It takes place at a camp – add in an unreliable narrator, past events repeating themselves, and some missing girls and you’ve got a page-turning summer mystery on your hands!

5. Frogkisser! – Garth Nix

Super cute adventure story that plays on fairy tale tropes. This is a really fun story with a kick-ass heroine. If you’re itching for some fantasy this summer, you should definitely check this one out. It’s got humor, it’s got magic, and it’s got a really cute, light romance. Definitely a great choice for a summer read.

Thoughts + Honorable Mention

Summer Days and Summer Nights

I just had to add this honorable mention – it’s not a novel, but a compilation of short stories by some pretty big-time authors, all centered around the theme of summer. I don’t love every story in this collection, but there is sum really great stuff in here! It’s a really fun read, it’s got romance, and even some supernatural elements in some of the stories. If you see an author you love here, you should check it out!

So there you have it. My top summer time reads! What do you think of my selections? Did any of your favorites make it on this list? Thank you for reading this post. Let’s chat in the comments! And, as always, happy reading!

    1. Thanks! I understand how you feel about “Summer Days.” Short stories can be really hit and miss. I’ve read an anthology of short stories, like this one with a whole lot of popular YA authors, and I really didn’t like a single story from it. I liked your Top 5! I’ve not read any of them, but they do sound perfect for summer!
