Friday Face-off is a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy and now hosted by Lynn’s Book Blog that focuses on book covers.
The rules…
Each week, following a predetermined theme, click here to see the list of themes for 2019, choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favorite.
I really wanted to give this meme a try. If I like it, I might do it more. 😊
This week’s theme:
“I wandered lonely as a cloud…” – William Wordsworth
– A cover that is predominantly yellow –
1985 by Farrar Straus Giroux 2007 by Square Fish 2010 by Penerbit Atria 2002 by Scholastic 2011 by Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları 2003 by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC 2016 by Editura Arthur 2009 by Nhã Nam
My book choice:
My favorites:
I think these covers both exemplify important aspects of the book, which is the main purpose of book covers. They evoke the feeling or important elements of the book. These two definitely have it going on.
Least favorites:
Honestly, I just don’t like it when movie covers are used. I also don’t like character faces depicted on covers, either. I want to imagine the characters for myself first!
My favorite:

I’m going with the classic, here! I think this cover, while overwhelmingly too yellow, has a better depiction of the feeling of the story, the setting, and it’s also a bit mysterious. I like it the best out of all the editions.
Thoughts & Thanks
Which is your favorite? Do you agree with my choice? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
This is such a cool idea for a post! I’d love to do something like this eventually because I love looking at different book covers. I think you made a great choice for your favorite cover. I actually really like that bold yellow. I do like your second favorite a lot, too.
I agree 100% about movie covers. They’re kind of the worst, but I get why they’re a thing. It definitely helps with selling books to people that have only seen the movie. I would still never buy one if I had a different option though.
Great stuff! – Zoe

Thank you so much! I also like the idea of this kind of post, so I’m grateful to have come across this in the book blogging world! And yeah, movie covers help sell. It’s the world we live in. Thanks for stopping by!
