Top 5 Books with a Road Trip | Top 5 Saturdays

Top 5 Saturdays is a series brought about by Mandy @ Devouring Books. If you want to see the schedule of Top 5 Saturday prompts, check out the link for Mandy!

I’ve decided for these Top 5 Saturdays, I will be looking exclusively at books I want to read, but haven’t yet. It’ll keep things interesting.

Let’s get to it!

Books I want to read…

Assassination Vacation – Sarah Vowell

I’m actually really interested in listing to the audio of this book…Apparently it’s a cast of people and it sounds like it’s really amazing! But plus, also, I love a good non-fic book, especially one that looks at presidential assassination.

Station Eleven – Emily St. John Mandel

I’ve been recommended to read this book recently! And here it is, perfectly fitting into this list! This book sounds so interesting – a traveling Shakespearean theatre in apocalyptic times. Sign me up!

Lolita – Vladimir Nabokov

This is one of those classic works of fiction that I was never made to read in school, but still want to because…I want to see what all the fuss is about. I mean, I know the gist of it, and the premise is creepy, pedophilly…but I want to see for myself why this book is a “classic.”

Paper Towns – John Green

I am always surprised by how few John Green books I’ve read. I’ve been meaning to read this book for so, so long. I even bought a UK edition of this book while I was traveling! Clearly I need to just sit down and read it already…

13 Little Blue Envelopes

Book cover of "13 Little Blue Envelopes" by Maureen Johnson

Hmm…a girl receives a letter from her aunt enticing her on a trip backpacking through Europe? Sounds awesome! I’ve read a couple of Johnson’s books, but I think this one sounds the most interesting that I’ve come across so far!

Thoughts & Thanks

Thank you so much for reading this post! If you like this, check out some of my other content! Let’s chat in the comments! Are any of my books listed on your TBR? Have you already read any of these? What did you think?

    1. That’s what I’ve heard about Lolita. I am curious about it from a writer’s standpoint. I thought of you when I picked Station 11, since I know you recommended it to me!

    1. I’m excited to read Station Eleven. It sounds so good! Thank you for your recommendation! And Lolita is just one of those books that I think people feel compelled to read. It’s a classic and I’m looking forward to seeing my own reaction to it!

    1. I know, right!! I hadn’t heard of this book until I started blogging, which was just this year. So yeah, I’m pretty excited about getting my hands on it!

  2. I absolutely loved 13 Little Blue Envelopes! I never read Lolita, but I did read Rust and Stardust, which is kinda a retelling of it and it was a bit disturbing. Paper Towns is also on my TBR and I almost put it on my list. Thank you so much for joining!

Just so you know for Summer Reads I am leaving it super open because a lot of people (including me) don’t read the classic “summery” books like rom coms. You can do books you read this summer and loved, books set in summertime or books you’d like to read in the summer season. However you interpret it is totally fine!

  3. Great list! I didn’t realize Station Eleven has a road trip in it (tbh I can’t remember the blurb lol) but it’s been on my TBR for a while now and I can’t wait to read it! 13 Little Blue Envelopes sounds cute too 😍

    1. I might have stretched things with Station Eleven…it’s a traveling Shakespearean troupe? I found it through a list of road trip books that someone had made. I can only take their word for it, since I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I’m excited! And 13 Little Blue Envelopes is definitely going to make me squee when I read it. Thank’s for checking out my list! 😄

    1. I’ll be curious to see what I think of it. I haven’t loved every Green novel I’ve read. The Fault in Our Stars is definitely my favorite of his so far. Thanks for showing me this!
