Top 5 Summer Reads | Top 5 Saturdays

Top 5 Saturdays is a series brought about by Mandy @ Devouring Books. If you want to see the schedule of Top 5 Saturday prompts, check out the link for Mandy!

I’ve decided for these Top 5 Saturdays, I will be looking exclusively at books I want to read, but haven’t yet. It’ll keep things interesting.

Let’s get to it!

Books I want to read…

With the Fire On High – Elizabeth Acevedo

One of the things I like reading about in the summer is food. I don’t know why, it’s just one of those things. And I am super excited about reading this book because it’s all about a girl who dreams of becoming a chef. I’ve heard so many good things about this book, plus Acevedo is an award-winning author. I’m so ready for this book!

Lady of a Thousand Treasures – Sandra Byrd

One of my other favorite things to read during the summer is romance novels, the breezier the better. This one’s a historical-fiction romance that I’ve had on my shelf for a while, but I think it would make a good summer read. It’s about a woman who deals in antiquities and is trying to stay out of debtor’s prison. There’s an old-flame bit, too, which is always interesting.

And Then There Were None – Agatha Christie

For me, summer is a great time to read mystery novels. I know it’s fun to read mystery books in October because of Halloween, but you know, summer is also a great time for cozy mysteries, for me. I don’t know why. I know I’ve seen a movie adaptation of this story before, but I’d like to read the book, just to see what it’s like comparatively. Plus, I just love reading Agatha Christie’s books. She’s so great!

Love & Luck Jenna Evans Welch

Not only is this book a romance (and a YA one, at that), it’s also an international destination story! This book seems like the perfect summer read. A young girl has had a major heartbreak and ends up traveling to the Emerald Isle (Ireland!!!) and thus a vacation of new beginnings ensues. I’ve packed my bags and I’m ready to go!

Crocodile on the Sandbank – Elizabeth Peters

Book cover of "Crocodile on the Sandbank" by Elizabeth Peters

I have been meaning to read this book for so long! This is one of those mystery series that I feel like would be a great cozy mystery read. And Peters’ series is majority set in Egypt, since the main character is an archaeologist. I feel like this book would be perfect for summer – a hot, sandy location, a mystery to be solved…It’s calling to me.

Thoughts & Thanks
