“What’s On My Bedside Table” Wednesday

This post is a continuation of my “What am I reading Wednesday” meme and I’ve It’s basically a “hump day” catch up to show what I’m in the middle of right now.

As many of you know, I’m not a monogamous reader – I’ve got a lot of books on my plate at all times, so this is another way to sort of break down what I’m currently reading and also make a few comments about how I’m enjoying it so far!

So, let’s get to it!

What’s on my bedside table?

| Currently Reading |

Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

26% Finished

I don’t know why, but I’ve been slow to get into this book. It raises some really interesting questions about feminism and standing up for others. I just hope that it starts picking up more, soon, and that I can finish it this week.

Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich

25% Finished

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of this and it’s been slow-going. I think the story is interesting, and I didn’t expect it to be a dystopian/apocalyptic story, but perhaps that was because I didn’t know too much about this book going in. I think the writing is good, and Erdrich is really great at creating interesting, well-developed characters. I’m interested to see where this goes after this point, since I’m a quarter of the way through.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

22% Finished

This book moves very slowly. So far, the story is almost exclusively the day-to-day life of the main character, Theo, and not much else. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish this book this month, since it moves so slowly, I’ve just been reading it a little bit at a time. It’s really more of a slow-burn and I have to step away from the book for a while before coming back. The writing is excellent, though.

Case Histories (Jackson Brodie #1) by Kate Atkinson

17% Finished

This book wasn’t on my TBR for this month, but my hold came up on it so I had to pick it up. This one is also a bit of a slow start. I like detective stories, but the way this one is set up is different than I’m used to. The first three chapters are about three different families, case histories, and present a crime. The rest of the book trades off between Jackson Brodie, a private investigator, and the people surrounding these crimes. I’m hoping the plot picks up soon, but so far, it’s been molasses-slow.

Whose Story Is This? by Rebecca Solnit

Emma Watson’s book club, Our Shared Shelf, finally released their pick for November/December: Whose Story Is This? So I’ve added it to my November TBR. It’s actually quite short, so I could potentially finish it this month. I have never read anything by Solnit before so I don’t know what to expect, but I’m looking forward to finding out.

Thanks a Thousand by A.J. Jacobs

I have read several of Jacobs’ books before and I didn’t know about this one until recently, but I thought it would be the perfect choice to read in November, since Thanksgiving is this month and it’s a time of being thankful and grateful for the things we have. This book is also on the short side, so I have hopes of being able to get to it, this month.

Thoughts & Thanks!

Thank you for reading my post! What do you have on your bedside table? Let’s chat in the comments! And as always, happy reading!
