January TBR

I am so excited to be starting on my second year of blogging! I have been having so much fun reading and reviewing and connecting with other bloggers. I’m glad that I started this blog and it’s been a real journey. Thank you to all who followed me this past year and I look forward to providing new and interesting posts this year for you!

I will be competing in some familiar reading challenges this year, as well as a couple new ones. I’m participating in Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge as well as Reading Women 2020, as well as continuing to read book prompts from Emma Watson’s reading club – Our Shared Shelf, but I will also be participating in #startonyourshelfathon and Year of the Asian Reading Challenge, which I’ll be posting about shortly!

But for now, I’ll focus on what I’m planning to read this month, so let’s get to it!

Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge 2020:

They Called Us Enemy – George Takei, Justin Eisinger (Co-Writer), Stephen Scott (Co-Writer), Harmony Becker (Illustrator)

I’m starting with the graphic memoir prompt. I had a hold on this book and it’s come in for me, so I want to make sure I read it promptly, because I know it has a long hold list. I like George Takei and I’ve heard him speak about his experiences in the Japanese internment camps before, but I’m excited to see the full story. I think it’s interesting to have chosen the graphic novel medium. I’m looking forward to reading this one!

Reading Women Challenge 2020:

Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus – Dusti Bowling

I wanted to start with something light and a book that I already happen to have (so this also counts for the #startonyourshelfathon, too!). This book will satisfy the Book Featuring a Woman with a Disability. This is the second book in a middle-grade series featuring a young girl who was born without arms. The first book is really amazing and it focuses a lot on disability, with the main character and her best friend who has Tourettes. I’ve been meaning to read this book for a while, so I’m looking forward to cracking it open!

ARC of the Month:

A Castle in the Clouds – Kerstin Gier

I almost forgot I had an ARC of this book! It’s a YA contemporary set in a secluded hotel in the Swiss mountains. The main character is an intern and is trying to make sure everything goes according to schedule, but the guests are acting suspiciously…I’m intrigued by this potential mystery story and I also think the cover is so cute! I hope to really enjoy this one!

My TBR Picks:

The Starless Sea – Erin Morgenstern

So my hold came up for this one and I haven’t had a chance to start reading it yet…and it’s due in 6 days! Yikes! It’s nearly 500 pages and I don’t know what I’m going to do! I will attempt to finish this – hopefully it ends up being a page-turner so that I can’t put it down! Who knows, but I’m going to give it a shot. I’ve heard good and bad things about this one, so we’ll see how it is.

What books are you reading this month?

If you’ve read any books from my list, let me know what you think! Do you have any of these selections on your TBR? Let me know in the comments!

It’s another month (and YEAR!) of reading dangerously and I hope I’m up to the challenge!
