Top 5 Authors, F-J | Top 5 Tuesday

Hello again! It’s Tuesday, and of course that means it’s time for a Top 5 post. Top 5 Tuesdays and their topics are brought to you by Shanah @ the Bionic Bookworm. Check out her blog, she’s awesome, and this page for the list of topics for March!

And now we continue on to the next set of letters! Some of these letters were very difficult to choose for! G alone gave me a lot of pause! But I’m happy to be spotlighting these authors, so without further ado:

F is for E.M. Forster!

I am a huge fan of Forster, or more specifically, A Room With a View, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s just such a beautiful novel and I find myself returning to it all the time. Though I have not read any of his other work, I do hope to, one day. I think he’s a brilliant writer and I’m glad I get the opportunity here to talk about him!

Also, the movie adaptation of A Room With a View is really great! And it stars Helena Bonham Carter, and she’s great!

G is for Gaiman!

Oh Neil Gaiman, how I love you! I’ve read quite a few of his books and I love most of them! His writing is so good! I think he’s such a credit to the genre he writes in. I love the spookiness he achieves without it being pure horror. There’s just something about his writing that really gets to me. I think it’s so easy and thoughtful at the same time. I just easily slip into any story he’s telling.

I also super appreciate the fact that he often speaks of libraries and librarians in a positive way. I really appreciate that recognition from such an established author.

H is for Helen Hoang!

I only recently have fallen for Helen Hoang, but I’ve fallen hard. I now eagerly anticipate any book she writes. I love The Kiss Quotient and really looked forward to reading The Bride Test and when I finally read it…*chef’s kiss* it was so beautiful and I loved it just as much Kiss Quotient. I think she has such a way with words and her characters are always so real and so easy to connect with. I cannot wait for her next book and I’m sure she has a long, bright future ahead. Plus, I love that she writes neurodiverse characters! It’s something you don’t often see, especially in the romance genre!

I is for Kazuo Ishiguro

“I keep thinking about this river somewhere, with the water moving really fast. And these two people in the water, trying to hold onto each other, holding on as hard as they can, but in the end it’s just too much. The current’s too strong. They’ve got to let go, drift apart. That’s how it is with us. It’s a shame, Kath, because we’ve loved each other all our lives. But in the end, we can’t stay together forever.”

I’ve talked on this blog before about my love for Ishiguro and for his amazing novel Never Let Me Go. I love that book so much. It’s one of my top 5 books of ever and I just love how Ishiguro captures the world and the people in it. His writing is so poetic, but in a really accessible way. It never comes across as trying too hard or highbrow. Though I’ve only read two of his books, I know that as I continue to read more, I’ll most likely continue to fall in love with his writing. If you haven’t checked him out before, please do!

Plus, the movie adaptation of Never Let Me Go is fantastic! Cannot recommend enough!

J is for Diana Wynne Jones

I think J was my hardest letter! Not because I had so many authors to choose from, but the opposite – not too many. Still, I think Jones is a great choice, because I really enjoyed her book Howl’s Moving Castle and I’m kicking myself that I haven’t finished that series. I know she’s a powerhouse in the world of fantasy and so I’m looking forward to exploring more of her work!
