Hello again! It’s Tuesday, and of course that means it’s time for a Top 5 post. Top 5 Tuesdays and their topics are brought to you by Shanah @ the Bionic Bookworm. Check out her blog, she’s awesome, and this page for the list of topics for March!
And now we continue on to the next set of letters! Some of these letters were very difficult to choose for! I have too many favorite authors! But this is a nice mixed set. Let’s take a look:
K is for Suki Kim!

I first read Kim’s non-fiction book Without You, There Is No Us, which was about the students of the elite in North Korea. She worked there as a teacher and got to see first-hand how these kids are groomed to be part of the Party, how sheltered they are from the rest of the world, and how they are raised to hate the US and South Koreans. It was a fascinating book! I loved it and I even bought a copy. I then went on to read a fiction book of hers, The Interpreter, which was also good. She’s a great writer and you should check her out!
L is for Gail Carson Levine!

Though there are many writers whose names begin or end with L that I love, I had to reserve this space for my favorite writer, Gail Carson Levine. Her book, Ella Enchanted, has held a special place in my heart since I first read it and it continues to be a book I turn to time and again. I recommend it all the time to readers, especially ones looking for books where the girl saves herself. Levine is a master of re-imagining fairytales, and I always look forward to each book she writes. She is amazing!
M is for Ben Mezrich!
Everyone had a story he believed was worthy of a best-seller; for me, reality was rarely interesting enough to take the place of fiction.”
― Ben Mezrich, Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions
I always enjoy the books I read by Mezrich. His non-fiction is always full of humor and intrigue. Possibly because he picks such interesting topics to write about! The first book of his I read was Bringing Down the House, which I’ve talked about before on this blog. It was actually adapted into a movie, 21. It tells the story of a group of MIT students who took casinos for millions of dollars by counting cards. If I could recommend any of his books, I’d recommend this one. It was fascinating!
N is for Garth Nix!

And I had to, had to pick Garth Nix for N! His fantasy writing is so amazing and it inspires me. I love his Sabriel series. It is such a brilliant world and the characters are all so detailed and real. But I also love his stand-alone works as well, like Frogkisser! which turns fairytale tropes on their head. He’s just such a brilliant writer and I don’t know how he manages to turn out so many books! His are some of the books I love to read and re-read again and again. If you haven’t read his Sabriel series, I highly recommend it.
O is for Kenneth Oppel
I fell in love with Oppel’s writing when I read his book The Nest, which is a middle-grade mystery/chiller. I really loved the spookiness of it, how it gave me the creeps without being over-the-top or too much. I also love how it addresses mental illness as well. It really is an amazing book. Then, when I read his book Every Hidden Thing, I was sold and I consider him one of my top favorite authors. If you haven’t read anything of his, definitely check out those two books, at least!
