And now we continue on to the next set of letters! This week I had my first letter where I had no one for, which is sad but true! I also had a letter that was very difficult to pick for because I had so many options! (R). Anyway, I hope you enjoy my selections this week, most of which seem to be writers from my childhood!
P is for Philip Pullman!

I grew up with His Dark Materials! It was one of my favorite fantasy series growing up and it’s one of my go-tos when I recommend a fantasy book to anyone. I think Pullman is an amazing writer. I mean, some of the stuff in those books went way over my head as a kid! He really knows how to world-build!
I also really love his courage in the face of being banned. His books are definitely controversial, but he keeps on going, and that’s brave!

R is for J.K. Rowling!
Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?

I really had to include Rowling in this list. She was one of the defining authors of my childhood! I grew up with Harry Potter and to this day, that series is a comfort to me in times of trouble or stress. Her writing is really so magical. I get lost in the world of Harry Potter and it’s so amazing. I’ve read some of her stuff for adults and it’s ok, but it’s not nearly as magical as Harry Potter. What I will say is that I can tell she’s a good writer. The writing is always good – but Harry Potter will always be what makes her special to me.
S is for Louis Sachar!
It was all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather!

Boy, when I read Holes growing up, I was really so impressed by Sachar! He made me laugh! I love his Wayside School stories as well, and they continue to be hilarious and a go-to for kids! I think he’s just a brilliant writer with a keen sense of what children want and need to hear. His characters, I think, are perfect mirrors for children to see themselves in his books. I will never get tired of reading his books.
T is for Ichigo Takano
Maybe it’s impossible to live life without any regrets. Even when you know the future… you’ll still mess up.

This one is a bit out of left-field compared to the others! But honestly, when I read the Orange manga series by Takano…I was blown away. It’s such a pure, loving depiction of high school and friends struggling with the grief of losing their friend. I can’t recommend this book series enough – it’s just two volumes! It’s really just so beautiful and true. I was really moved by it. I couldn’t find any pictures of Takano, so they remain a mystery!
