Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
The rules:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
Now for the list:

Picking up from where I left off:
Giant Days, Vol. 1 – John Allison

A co-worker of mine started reading this comic and she really enjoyed them. I’m not as familiar with the comic genre, but every once in a while, I see something that piques my interest. This comic series focuses on a group of friends who just started university. It’s a contemporary YA and it just looks really cute and fun! It seems like it’s been compared to Lumberjanes, which I haven’t read, but I know they’re quite popular. So maybe if I enjoy this series, I should get into that?
Verdict: KEEP
Larchfield – Polly Clark

This is an historical fiction novel that jumps between the present and the past. In the present, a young woman named Dora moves into a home on the Scottish coast. She’s newly married and pregnant and excited about the future. Unfortunately life doesn’t go quite as planned and she finds life in the village stifling and difficult. Much like W.H. Auden, another poet who once lived in the same village many years ago. I’ve read poems by Auden before, but I know next to nothing about him, so the idea of this book really appeals to me, because I love poetry and this book sounds like it could be very creative and wistful. We’ll see.
Verdict: KEEP
Man-Eaters – Chelsea Cain

Another comic series! I put this on my TBR because it just sounds funny! In this world, when girls get older they turn into flesh-eating wildcats. Maude, the main character, is 12 and on the cusp. Her detective dad is investigating a series of murders that Maude is afraid might be her doing…I mean, does this sound wacky or what? It’s Young Adult and its got a feminist bent, so I’m really onboard here I’m just curious to see how this is all handled, because books like this can go either way for me. I suspect I’ll either love it or hate it.
Verdict: KEEP
Dictionary Stories: Short Fictions and Other Findings – Jez Burrows

This book just sounds like literary fun. It’s described as very short stories composed entirely of sample sentences from various dictionaries. I love the English language and I’ve read a variety of books about language. One of my favorite classes from college (also one of the most difficult for me) was History of the English Language. I learned so much and it’s just really fascinating. So this book intrigued me on principle and I’m still really excited to read it and see what it’s about.
Verdict: KEEP
The Explorer – Katherine Rundell

A group of friends returning to England find themselves fighting for survival after their plane crashes and the pilot dies. When they find a map, they end up discovering a ruined city and a secret. I mean, this book just sounds like a fun adventure story! It’s middle grade, and I think this could be a book that I end up promoting to kids looking for something exciting to read. I love adventure stories, especially because they usually end up being page-turners. I hope this one is as good as it sounds.
Verdict: KEEP

Thoughts?
So, what do you think? Any books I cut that you wouldn’t? Any books that I’m keeping that aren’t worth my time? Let me know! I’d love to hear from you. See you next week for another meme post.
I need to do this again. And read the rules. Lol, it makes so much more sense starting from the bottom *facepalm*. I’m also terrible with left and right so of course up and down would be no different :-p

Yeah, starting from the bottom helps. Now that I’m getting closer to the top, I’m discarding less and less! I highly recommend this exercise. It makes me feel like I don’t have to 100% commit to my TBR.
