Well, despite all the craziness still abound, I think I picked myself up a bit more this month. I did a good job spacing my reading out and taking into account which books I might need more time with. Favorite Book of the Month:
Dragon Pearl – Yoon Ha Lee

I love the world that Lee has created here. It’s the perfect blend of sci-fi and Korean culture. I loved getting to know this world full of spirits, gumiho, and other shape-shifters. I loved the space travel and life onboard a spaceship. But, most especially, I love Min. She’s such a great character, so loyal and fierce in her love for her family. I really enjoyed seeing her grow over the course of the novel and I love that she was never self-righteous and always considered how things might be for others. This is such a great book and I would love for Lee to write more books in this world.
Least Favorite Book of the Month:
A Simple Favor – Darcey Bell

This book was very disappointing. I was looking forward to reading it because the premise sounded so mysterious. What actually occurs is a really contrived mystery involving three very unlikable people and a very dissatisfying ending. I was so mad when I reached the final page that I sincerely wished I hadn’t come across this book at all. I wonder how the movie is, because if it follows the book at all directly, I won’t like it. If you enjoy murder mysteries, I’d say skip this one because it’s really just annoying and pointless.

How about you?

Yes! I thought it was great! It was full of action, the characters were really well developed and likeable, and I loved the Korean mythology written in. It was so cool!
