February TBR

February already! So far, I feel my resolutions are holding strong and I’m feeling better about choosing the books I’m reading and having time to set some aside for later and prioritize what I want to read, rather than living and dying by my challenge lists.

What I’m most excited about is that I re-read the first book in the Red Rising trilogy so that I can move on to reading the rest of the series. A goal of mine is to try to finish series that I began but didn’t finish (mostly due to my tight reading schedule the past couple years!). The second book has just arrived and I’m ready to finish the story!

Anyway, below is my general goal of books I want to read this month, but which I’m not holding myself to, in case I want to change it up or another book that I put on hold at my library arrives early.

Golden Son by Pierce Brown

As I mentioned above, I am excited to be reading the second book in this series. I really enjoyed re-reading the first book and I’m looking forward to where this story will take me. I hope it’s as good as the first. Sequels are often a let-down, but I have hopes based on the high rating this book has on Goodreads. While that doesn’t necessarily mean it will align with my own feelings, I’m taking it as a good sign!

Shakespeare Saved My Life by Laura Bates

This book I previously had on my TBR, then I’d taken it off, but it’s back on again because it happens to fulfill a prompt for this year’s Reading Women Reading Challenge: “a book about incarceration.” Bates writes about her experience volunteering to teach Shakespeare in a prison and a particular inmate that she ends up bonding with. I think the premise sounds very intriguing and I’m hoping the writing lives up to this.

The Flight Attendant by Christ Bohjalian

I’ve actually already started reading this book. I was curious about watching the mini-series that is out now based off of this book, so I thought I’d read the source material first. I do love murder/mystery/thrillers and this definitely takes you right into it. I’m hoping that it can stick the finish. I always set out with high hopes, but books in this genre don’t always end up living up to my expectations. We’ll see!

We Are the Fire by Sam Taylor

I received this as an ARC and I’ve also heard such rave reviews for this book. It’s a fantasy YA novel, so I’m looking forward to being swept away to a new world! I’m trying not to expect too much, since the hype seems so strong. I don’t want to be disappointed by the last fantasy ARC I read. I’m carefully optimistic about the action and emotional drama this story boasts.

A Burning by Megha Majumdar

This book is another Reading Women pick for me: “a book longlisted for the JCB prize,” which is awarded annually to a work of fiction by a distinguished Indian writer. This book has a lot of good reviews and the story, which weaves together the lives of several characters over a central issue, seems intriguing. I’ve also already started reading this book as well (I’m actually listening to the audiobook, which is pretty good), and I’m liking it so far!
