June TBR

I’m not going to expect much out of my reading TBR for this much, which is why I’m going to keep it on the light side. I’ve got a lot on my plate, between school and work, so I’m not going to layer up my reading plate. I have a few carry-over books from last month, but I won’t include them here. My main goal is to read books towards my Reading Women Challenge and maybe a fun one tossed in.

These are the books I currently have on my TBR for the month:

Lab Girl | Hope Jahren

I’m reading this for my Reading Women challenge, reading a book about nature. I saw this book in a review magazine a while back and thought it sounded really interesting. Jahren’s book is essentially about her life and work in labs, working with plants. I’m intrigued, always, by plant science and this book also seems to touch on personal stories and adversities. I hope to enjoy it!

This Train is Being Held | Ismée Williams

This is another book I’m reading for the Reading Women challenge, for the prompt “YA novel by a Latinx Author.” This book is a bit of a “West Side Story” re-imagining. Two teens meet while riding the train in New York and get to know each other/fall in love through subsequent meetings. I’ve already started reading (well, listening) to this book and I really like it, so far. I like the blend of spanglish and the cultural aspects built into the story. I look forward to seeing where it goes.

Man Enough | Justin Baldoni

I’m reading this for a book club and I’m excited to dig into it. Some may know Baldoni from his role on Jane the Virgin. This book is his way of breaking down toxic masculinity and trying to find a way to challenge traditional views of masculinity. This book was written from a very personal stance, so I’m curious to see how Baldoni connects this quest to his own life and experiences.

Jelly | Clare Rees

I started reading this last month, but got caught up in other books. This is one crazy premise. A group of people, all ages, are stuck on the back of a giant jelly fish after an apocalyptic event. They’re trying to find a way to escape the jellyfish and return to land. I mean, crazy, right? I received an ARC of this, though it’s a second release, since it’s first publication was in the UK. The writing is very interesting and I’m curious to see where this story leads.
