Books I Read In One Sitting (or would have if I had the time) | Top 10 Tuesdays

Welcome back, it’s Tuesday, which mean’s it’s also Top 10 Tuesdays, which is now hosted by Jana @ThatArtsyReaderGirl, make sure to check her blog out!

Anyways, here’s the list:

I will be the first to admit that I don’t read very fast. I don’t think I could count on one hand the books I finished in one sitting, but there are certainly books that I read more quickly than others because I was so engrossed that I had to know what was going to happen once. I have stayed up late reading only a handful of books. But this list is mostly a list of books that I recommend because they are so good that they’re hard to put down!

Anyways, here’s the list:

1. Heartstopper | Alice Oseman

Granted, this is a graphic novel, but I was immediately drawn into the story and I didn’t want to put it down. I think I read it in just a couple of days, and it probably would have been one sitting if I had the time, I was that invested. I really love this series and I devour each one.

2. Fortunately, the Milk | Neil Gaiman

Similarly to my first entry, this book is short and a middle-grade chapter book. But! It’s also really funny and the story is so wild that you want to keep reading because you want to know where it’s going to take you next. I didn’t read it in one sitting, but it was another book I finished quickly, partly because it was short, but also because it was a page-turner.

3. We Were Liars | e. lockhart

I did read this in one day and it was because I just had to know how it would end. This book was truly a mystery/thriller and I couldn’t put it down. I would definitely recommend it, though it’s one of those books where you can only read it once because the mystique is gone once you’ve read it. Still, it’s quite a twist and I really enjoyed it.

4. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane | Kate DiCamillo

As with most DiCamillo books, I was instantly enchanted. This book is one of my favorite books of all time and, yes, it is a short book, a middle-grade, but it’s stuck with me. I love how magical the story is and it’s such an emotional journey. I felt compelled to keep reading because the writing was just so beautiful.

5. If I Stay | Gayle Forman

I did actually read this book in one day. I started it thinking it would be like most typical teen romances, but honestly it was so unique that I found myself turning page after page. I just had to know where it was going. I really like that about this book and though it may not be a stand-out in writing or character development, the premise of it was mysterious enough that I wanted to get through it as quickly as I could so I could find out how it ended.

6. The Martian | Andy Weir

I think any regular readers of my blog would probably have guessed that I’d put this book on here. I love this book and yes, it was a real page-turner for me. I think books that are humorous tend to keep my interest for longer, so I generally keep reading when I might put other books down. I love this book, the writing is brilliant, and I will read it again and again.

7. Landscape with Invisible Hand | M.T. Anderson

This book is another short one, but I was really compelled by the story. Every Anderson book I’ve read has been so unique and just really interesting. I could not predict what would happen in this book, so naturally I wanted to keep reading to figure it out. I really recommend this book. It’s sci-fi and just so weird and interesting!

8. Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating | Christina Lauren

I’ve found that I also tend to read romance books far quicker than others. Again, I didn’t finish this in one sitting, but I did finish it quicker than most books I read simply because the writing was easy and the romance was so good! I loved the characters and I just wanted to see their happy ending come true as soon as possible. I like to re-read this book just because it’s such a light, easy joy to read.

9. The Kiss Quotient | Helen Hoang

Another romance! Honestly, I could put any of Hoang’s books up here because all of them are so fresh, sassy, and fun to read. There’s humor, but there’s also really lovable, relatable characters and I always want to keep reading. Hoang’s writing is really great and her characters are complex and just so interesting. I recommend all of them!

10. Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

This book is just so fall-cozy. It’s a graphic novel, so yes it was easier to read faster, but the story is also really, really cute. I love the illustrations – they really make the book. I really enjoyed looking for all the fall-themed references in it. The story is just so warm and cozy you want to keep reading. It’s a book that makes a great seasonal read, too!

How about you?

  1. Fortunately, the Milk is such a cute book! If I hadn’t been reading it to my then 6 year old with the attention span of a fly, I probably would have read it to him in one sitting. Luckily he still loves this book so maybe one day he’ll get to read it in one sitting himself!
