Last Current Next is a fun, quickly little window into my reading habits. I get to talk about the book I read last, one of the books I’m reading currently (yours truly is not a monogamous reader, I have many books in my currently reading stack, and I’m too excited to stick to just one book, I mean…), and the book(s) I plan on reading next.

Last Read: Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
Book cover of "Listen For the Lie" by Amy Tintera

I’ve slowly been working my way through my backlog of my own collection of books I haven’t read. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, I thought I’d finally visit Tintera’s debut adult novel. This book is a “cold case” mystery, the only murder that happened is in the past and the main character was the prime suspect, but was never convicted. She’s reluctantly out to clear her name, teaming up with a podcaster who brought all this back to the forefront. I enjoyed the book at first, but I found the ending to be lackluster and it was hard to enjoy reading about a small town where literally everyone is sleeping with everyone else and everyone is having an affair. It just got to be too much. Though I enjoyed the author’s YA work (check out Reboot!), I was not a fan of this one.

Current Read: The Wild Huntress by Emily Lloyd-Jones

This will be the second book I’ve read by Lloyd-Jones and I have to say, I really enjoy her worldbuilding. This book is set in the same world as her previous one, The Drowned Woods, which I really enjoyed. It weaves Welsh fae stories with original fantasy elements to create a really magical backdrop for the story. I find each of the three main characters to be fascinating and I’m really enjoying what I’ve read so far. I’m about half way. I would love to put up a review of this book when I’m done. I’ve got so much to gush about!

Next Read: Jackal by Erin E. Adams

This book has just been waiting on my nightstand for me to pick up. I feel rushed, because I checked it out from the library a month ago and I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. Yikes! I am excited to read it because the premise is really intriguing. It’s a missing persons kind of mystery and there’s racial tensions and small-town feel. I’m excited to see if it lives up to the hype.
